Jamaican Jerk Chicken Recipe
Earlier this week, we tried a new recipe for Jamaican Jerk Chicken, and it was so good that I had to share it with you. My husband Jared based what he did off of this recipe from foodandwine.com. I’ll list what he did here since he made several tweaks to the recipe. The original recipe has almost 4000-5 star ratings, so we aren’t the only one who thought it was delicious!
Ingredients:
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 3 medium scallions, chopped
- 3 jalapenos, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, chopped
- 1 tablespoon five-spice powder
- 1 tablespoon ground pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup coconut aminos (soy sauce substitute)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 6 Chicken Leg and thigh quarters
Directions:
- In a food processor, combine the onion, scallions, jalapenos, garlic, five-spice powder, pepper, thyme, nutmeg and salt. Process it into a paste. With the machine on, add the Coconut aminos and olive oil in a steady stream. Pour the marinade into a large, shallow dish, add the chicken and turn to coat. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
The Single Food that had the Greatest Impact on My Overall Health
I’m not one for gimmicks or quick fixes. Being in robust health doesn’t happen overnight but generally takes making significant changes to diet, movement, mindset, stress, sleep, etc over an extended period of time. However, there has been one food that I believe has made a tremendous difference in my overall state of health. What is it? Organ meats and in my case, specifically liver. In my mind this is the superfood of superfoods.
My Story
I had made all the changes. I ate a super clean real food, paleo type diet, I slept 8 plus hours a night, I walked everyday, I eliminated stressors in my life, I got rid of toxins from cleaning supplies and beauty products, but still I was having a hard time balancing my hormones with abnormally long cycles and was having a hard time getting pregnant. Then entered, organ meat. I had known it was good for me for a long time and even would sneak it in every now and again in ground beef dishes but I never fully took the plunge. I decided to start making liver pate and eating 1-2 tbsp daily on my morning vegetables and eggs.
Wellness Challenge #28: Have Fun In the Snow!
This weekend, I challenge you to HAVE FUN IN THE SNOW!! I remember when I was little, I used to LOVE playing in the snow! What has happened over the years that has suddenly made us as adults so serious and afraid to play? We worry how bad the roads are going to be and how slippery it could be. This weekend, I want you to think about what you could do to enjoy the snow! Here are a few ideas to get you started.
- Make a snow angel…. Or better yet, a MYSTERY snow angel. I love the picture for this article. My mom woke up to this mystery snow angel in her driveway one morning in December. She had no idea where it came from, but found out later that one of her friends snuck over, crept down the narrow tire tracks without making any footprints, and leapt off the tracks to make the snow angel. The angel looked like it must have come from heaven. How fun to surprise one of your friends with a mystery snow angel to wake up to!
The Webster Technique
Pregnancy is an exciting time, but it can also be extremely stressful. Your body is changing, and your lifestyle and relationships are about to go through a major transition. If we are honest, at times it can tap into some deep fears and insecurities. It doesn’t help that many people like to tell expectant moms difficult birthing stories!
But what if there was a way to prepare your body for birth? A technique developed specifically for the pregnant mom to prepare her for a safer and easier birth. That’s just what the Webster Technique was created to be. Let me tell you a little about the method, it’s the background, and my experience with it. Then I will make a very special announcement (in case you missed it on the Facebook live video).
What is the Webster Technique?
It is a specific assessment and chiropractic adjustment to be used on pregnant women throughout pregnancy in preparation for a safer and easier birth. While it was created with the pregnant patient in mind, this technique is meant to balance the bony and ligamentous structures of the pelvis and sacrum, and thus can be used on anyone with a spine and pelvis!
When should pregnant patients start receiving regular Webster assessments and adjustments?
This can be done as soon as pregnancy starts, or even during the preconception period!
Why is having this assessment and adjustment important?
